Winter Series Race #1&2
A different mixed fleet lined up for 2 races this Sunday for the start of the LSWSA Winter Series. All up, 14 boats hit the water, with 5 O’pen Skiffs, 2 A class, 2 Taipan 4.9s, a W14, a Paper Tiger, a Nacra 14Sq, a 420 and a Spacesailer. Some skippers gave up their day sailing to volunteer to continue building the new shed. Thanks heaps to Tim, Steve and others.
The remaining skippers did a wind dance to little avail. The light winds persisted, so our Commodore set a very short course for Race #1. Soon after the start, the wind came up a little which meant some boats finished in a very quick time of around 20min. Later, the wind increased a little so Race #2 was set a little longer out to Mark B, and of course the wind died out on the return leg, but most boats made it home.
It was great to see Patrick in the Spacesailor getting the kids to hoist a symmetrical spinnaker for their first time. Despite the light winds it’s always good to go sailing and it was a beautiful late Autumn day and everyone had fun. Thank you very much to Haylee for doing Race Control and to the gentlemen on the rescue boat.
If you got to the lake early, it was a mirror calm water and blue skies that greeted you. 3 SUP paddlers were out for a session and later on a Canadian canoe. It’s a lovely spot for a day out.
