Marathon #1 25/26 Series
Small fleet for the first Marathon of the series. With a forecast of 35º and light winds that may have put people off but thankfully there was enough breeze to get through the day. The day started off with around 10-12 knots early and faded to around 5-8 knots? Any breeze was appreciated just to cool us down.
The course was changed to timed laps rather than a long marathon course due to weather predictions and lack of enough safety boat volunteers. It all worked out rather well and it was nice to have a day without a storm to worry about after all the wind, rain and hail damage from the recent week.
I was on safety boat today and watched some great sailing tactics and abilties from the seasoned sailors and it seems everyone enjoyed the day despite the heat. A few more knots would have been nice but then the rescue boat might have had to do some work and I was enjoying an easy day.
Thanks very much to John Wesburg in Race Control. His first time running this solo. and to our regular wonderful volunteer Rob on safety boat.
Music on vid is September… wrong month but who cares:)
