Winter Series Race 1&2
The day started off with well with some variable and sometimes gusty winds which died off just in time for the first race start. This race was shortened and the second race was turned into a 1 lap sprint? with all divisions starting together. A dozen boats line up for the start with a variety of colourful craft, from a modern N17, a Euro Nacra 4,5, to 40 year old cats, a trailer sailer and monos.
Good to see Brett having a go at his first race in his Tropic 520 trailer sailor. The light and shifty winds didn’t really suit him but he had a good day out. Hope to see him back out with us again soon.
Steve Lys was racing his H14 today and had a great tussle with his son on Steve’s N4.5. (haha, rotten kids) Both got a first in Div C. Paul Harradine followed up with a 3rd in division C.
Division D had Cliffy winning the first race. Tim in his 5.8 took the second race with Paul Rowell cose behind and then Luke and Lilly in a Nacra 17.
In the monos, Craig Gray and Nigel battled hard all day with Craig taking out first.
Seems everyone enjoyed the day despite the fickle weather. back at Race Control, we managed to keep track of the boats via Lock’s live drone footage to help us track the mixing up of divisions when shortening the course.
There were a number of issues with the radios today and luckily we could resort to mobile phones. The start box also had trouble but we went manual instead. It was Lock and my first time doing race control and I’m grateful he was there to back me up.
Thanks very much to Rob and John for doing safety boat and Rob and Paul Harradine for all their work around the club lately. New blinds now installed in the box to keep the sun off the equipment and keep it a bit cooler..
On the way home it started to rain, so we were lucky to have had a nice day on the lake despite the fluky winds. Apologies if I got anything wrong in this is post.
PS: We will be looking for volunteers for a working bee on a number of jobs soon…
