Spring Series #9 & 10
Lake Samsonvale Water Sports Association's 2025 Spring Series: Race 9 and Race 10
(Written with Ai assist) On a picturesque day in Southeast Queensland, with stormy weather bypassing to the north, the Lake Samsonvale Water Sports Association (LSWSA) hosted the 2025 Spring Series Race 9 and Race 10. Although the fleet was smaller, with about 14 participants, the excitement was palpable as sailors gathered to compete. This reduced turnout was due to several LSWSA members participating in the Lake Cootharaba Cat Challenge Regatta.
The Breeze and the Fleet
The races took place under a puffy breeze ranging from 10 to 15 knots, which added a thrilling element to the competition. This brisk wind caused the occasional capsize, including a memorable moment when a Nacra 4.5 with a blue jib capsized but was quickly righted, showcasing the sailors' skill and resilience.
The fleet was diverse, featuring a mix of monohulls, catamarans, and a sole trimaran, each bringing its unique dynamics to the races.
Gratitude to the Volunteers
A special thanks goes out to our dedicated race volunteers: Rob and Jeremy, who diligently manned the Safety Boat, and Paul, who expertly managed the Starters Hut. Their efforts ensured the safety and smooth operation of the races. Thanks to Rob for all the images.
D Division
In the D Division, Race 10 proved to be particularly competitive, with sailors giving their all and battling closely for the lead. The tight competition made for an exhilarating spectacle.
C Division
Both races in the C Division showcased intense rivalries, with sailors vying for supremacy in gripping, neck-and-neck battles. The level of competition highlighted the skill and tenacity of the participants.
A Day of High-Speed Fun
The day was an exciting blend of high-speed thrills and the harmonious yet challenging interaction of man and woman against—and with—nature. The combination of beautiful weather, spirited competition, and the camaraderie among sailors made it a memorable event for all involved.
The LSWSA looks forward to more exhilarating races in the future, hoping to welcome back those who ventured to Lake Cootharaba.
