The #3 Story

Let Neal Baulch tell the story.

She was originally bought in 1981 and was shipped to Gove N.T. At some point the original owner sold, but the boat remained in Gove. I originally saw this boat on 44 gallon drums in a park in Gove in 1992, and knew that I had to have her. I found the owner who was willing to sell, and then had a wonderful time sailing her around the warm waters of Gove.

When I thought I was going to leave town in 2004 I sold her to a young gentleman. I never ended up leaving town, and found that the young guy had left and the boat was sitting on a trailer at the back of his father’s house. When I went by and saw her in a run down state I just had to have her back.

I am now in the process of refitting her and can’t wait to get her back in the water where she belongs.. She will be looking good when I have finished, sporting a new 2 pack paint job, new headsail, new asymmetrical spinnaker and a new 5 horse 4 stroke Mariner for when the wind wont blow.

Like #1, #3 is a ‘wide version’, the difference being very visible here. Hulls, rudders, even the curved mainsheet track appear the same. This photo shows #3 just before being dismantled for sanding and refinishing. It will be great to see #3 restored to her former glory.

And here’s the latest update, Sans Souci in a brilliant new paint job, ready to be launched, and on the water with her new asymmetrical kite.
