R/C Yachting

The LSWSA R/C Yachting Group was formed officially on the 5th May 2019, when the then Pine Rivers Radio Yacht Club were forced to find a new sailing venue after the Moreton Bay Regional Council decommissioned the dam within Lakeside Park Raceway at Dakabin.

The Pine Rivers Radio Yacht Club was originally formed in 1999, sailing in a lake at the Big Fish near Burpengary.

With the inclusion of the LSWSA R/C Yacht Group, LSWSA is able to provide the complete sailing package, from the “Learn to Sail Classes” to Regattas for the larger sailing craft, and now, the Club can offer R/C Yachting, sailing various Classes of RC yachts sanctioned by the ARYA/QRYA.

The R/C Group generally sail competitively each fortnight with Championship Scratch racing one Sunday fortnight and Handicap Racing on the alternate fortnight. If numbers permit, members also meet socially each Thursday to sail casually and help one another with any issues which may arise in relation to their yachts.

The Club currently sails Marblehead Class on the Championship Scratch Sailing days whilst on the Handicap Days, skippers are able to sail any class of boat as the skipper is handicapped on his ability as is the Class of yacht. Some classes sailed on a Handicap Day include Marblehead, A Class, IOMs, 10R.

If you are interested in coming along to try your hand at R/C Sailing, please email the R/C Yacht Coordinator on Bruce Frazer. This is a gated venue (by agreement with SEQWater), so arrangements must be made for any visitors to gain access.
